SATAI 2023, March 2-3

Post by Bob Anderson »

This e-mail is an invitation to attend the upcoming SATAI crash conference in Glendale, Arizona.

This year’s crash program will feature remote driven vehicles using the Phantom Driver, anthropomorphic test devices (crash dummies), and EDR supported vehicles for manufacturers, such as Honda and Mazda, for which there has not been previously published comparison between crash test parameters and EDR pre-crash and crash recorded data.

For those of you that might not know, SATAI is perhaps the only organization that does not charge conference fees. In other words, you can attend SATAI conferences as long as your membership is current. The yearly membership fee is only $90!

The Conference Announcement that previously went out to SATAI members is below:

The SATAI Board has set the dates and speakers for the Spring 2023 conference in Glendale, AZ at the Glendale Regional Public Safety Training Center (GRPSTC). Due to Glendale, AZ hosting the NFL Superbowl in February of 2023, we have decided to shift our conference slightly later than usual.

Our crash test program will take place starting at 1PM on March 2, 2023 with our usual quality crashes being conducted by Bob Anderson and his fantastic team of crash experts.

On Friday, March 3, 2023, some other guy of . will be presenting “EDR Updates” and Wes Vandiver of Berla Corporation will be presenting “Vehicle System Forensics”.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Brandon Nabozny of Forza Forensics will be presenting on “Forensic Photography” and Michael Jorgensen and Scott Swinford of Aperture will present the study that they published in 2021 for SAE, “Validation of Vehicle Speed Analysis Utilizing the iNPUT-ACE Camera Match Overlay Tool”. As usual, Bob Anderson and his team will provide a brief review of the results of the crash test program at the end of the day on Saturday.

The SATAI Board members have done an outstanding job of coordinating the speakers for this conference and we are excited to share these presentations with you.

In past years the SATAI board has reached out to local hotels and placed aside a block of rooms for our members. Occasionally these rooms were guaranteed at conference rates. Our attempts to coordinate blocks of rooms at any reduced price have failed this year, primarily because our conference is scheduled to occur during the MLB Cactus League Spring Training. We ask that, if you plan to attend the conference in March of 2023, please find suitable hotel arrangements to your plans and budget as early as you can in order to guarantee a spot. SATAI is committed to keeping our presentation conference and crash program as one of the most affordable in our industry but we have little to no control over the secondary costs of the conference, namely hotel arrangements. We absolutely look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in attendance at the conference.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for speakers or topics for next summer/fall, please reach out to myself (jbalasa@mecanicacorp.com) or any of the other board members listed on the SATAI website.
Thank you and have a wonderful upcoming holiday season!
