Can't communicate with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee

To all you EDR gurus,

Recently I attempted to download a Jeep Cherokee and it ended in total failure.

The gist is that I originally connected to the Jeep OBDII port and all seem fine. When I “hooked-up” the VIN automatically populated the VIN Box. Additionally, when I checked the CANplus module communication, it was “talking” to my PC.

Every thing seem to be OK until I started to extract the data. The CANplus module did the usual clicking during the download process; then it stopped, and I got an error message that stated no communication with the module.

Note, the module was mounted under the center stack, so this vehicle was NOT a Grand Cherokee.

Try the CD900 and got the same error message.

Figuring that there was something wrong with the vehicles’ can system I removed the module.

The help file stated that I needed to use the FOOK108387 adapter and cable FOOK108598 for a benchtop download.

Tried plugging in the FOOK108598 cable into the ACM and it was obvious it wouldn’t fit. Thereafter, I went through my entire kit and found that the only cable that would plug into the module was the 819

Hooked up with the 819 with the FOOK108387 adapter…same results. Tried again with the CD900 with and without the adapter resulted in total failure.

The module is Chrysler part number of P/N P68421924AA, supplier code is KL D HI, and the VIN is TNYMF102802983.
Tried Bosch support and I received a message that there were no reported issues with this vehicle. Additionally, I tried to inform them that the help file was wrong for this particular vehicle, basically the response was indifference.

Can someone out there point me in the right direction to resolve this issue. It appears at this time that Bosch is not interested in solving this problem.

Mr. Pultar,

I responded to your CDR Tool Group post back on June 5th; perhaps you didn't see it.

You provided a 14 character VIN, not a 17 character VIN so I was unable to decode it.

You indicated the CDR Help file called for direct-to-module cable F00K108598 and the 387 adapter. The CDR Help file lists the F00K108785 cable for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It lists the F00K108598 cable for the Grand Cherokee which you have indicated the vehicle was not.

You initially did a "read VIN from vehicle" which worked as far as populating the Vehicle Identification Number field. The process of reading a VIN from a vehicle (when it works) will read a VIN from non-supported vehicles as the function has nothing to do with the ACM. So that process was going good until you clicked "done" and then got a VIN not supported message. What specific error message did you get? Did you get the error message that says, "The VIN entered is presently not supported, or does not match the selected brand?"

To some extent you started over and then manually entered the VIN and after clicking "done" the software accepted the VIN and you did not get any type of error. Then you attempted to collect data and got a no communication with module error message. Which specific error message did you get?

You then tried the CDR 900 which didn't work, and would not be expected to work on the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. You stated you used the CDR900 with and without the (387) adapter. The CDR 900 never gets used with the 387 adapter.

Having a CDR Cable fit an ACM does not mean is connecting to the correct pins of the ACM. This is where OEM service information comes in handy by comparing the ACM connector pinouts to the CDR direct to module cable.

When you used the CAN+ interface (the only one that should work) with the 819 cable did you have the two-piece AC Power supply connected to the 387 adapter? Are you sure your 387 adapter is working correctly? What specific error message did you get?

Kent,

Sorry about the VIN... here is the complete VIN 1C4PJMLB7KD188950. As for the cables; I have a complete CDR kit, in fact I still have my original Vetronix legacy kit with the discontinued "power booster" module and Vetronix 02003002 cable.

I went through my entire kit and the ONLY cable that would fit was 819. Therefore if it's the wrong cable, then there isn't D2M cable available for this module.

Bill,

Thanks for the VIN which does decode to a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. This one that would be worth researching OEM service information to see what ACM connector and pinouts Chrysler shows for this particular vehicle (based upon the VIN). It is possible the correct cable for this vehicle does not exist.
